The Newly Revised Edition of Learning At Home: A Mother’s Guide To Homeschooling
is finished and will be available
soon. I am just waiting for a proof from the printer. As soon as it’s approved, you’ll be able to order it online from this
site. I’ve gone with Lightning Source as my printer for this edition. That means the books will be printed as ordered. I won’t
have to pay thousands of dollars up front, which inspires me to complete the other books I’m working on.
I hope you’ll enjoy the updated version. I had fun reading through my book again. I enjoyed reliving my children’s childhood
and remembering my observations of them as they played. I can’t imagine what my life would have been like if my children had
gone to school instead of learning at home. I wouldn’t be the person I am now. I learned and grew as much as they did. I’ve
added a few more photos, added more to the chapter about writing, and changed some of the reference information. However,
most of it is the same. I didn’t think I could express anymore clearly how to help children learn at home.
My lullaby CD is in the works but it is a slower process than I had anticipated. I hope to record it sometime in the next
couple months. I’ll keep you informed.
My other writing project is a book about becoming the mother your want to be. It will incorporate information about preventing
burnout and creating motherhood models that are supportive rather than critical. It will be a workbook style book that you
can use to discover what is important to you in mothering your children using information, questions and suggestions I’ll
be presenting. My goal is to have this completed by the fall.
I will be doing a book release and workshop tour in April – Greater Vancouver, BC and perhaps Calgary
or Edmonton, Alberta. If you live in either of these places, feel free to contact me and let me know if you’re interested.
I plan to travel to Toronto and Montreal between May 15 – 25th. I will post information about workshops as they
are booked. This is the all day workshop I’ll be touring with
THE 3 R’S FOR HOMESCHOOLING MOMS - RECONNECT, REFLECT, AND RENEW
A Pro D for Mothers and Others Seminar with Marty Layne
This seminar gives you a chance to step back and look at how homeschooling is working for you. We’ll look at common stressors
and fears, review child development and temperaments, and look at various ways education can happen at home. Depending on
the interests of the group, we will focus on a variety of topics – for example: inviting children to write, helping children
understand math, creating a positive learning environment, when to let go, when to ask for more, etc.
Built into this seminar is time to step back and reconnect with yourself, to take time to remember who you are and what
is important to you. Interactive opportunities to do some hands-on activities - writing your thoughts, making a collage as
well as time for quiet reflection on your values and why you chose to homeschool. And we’ll take time to review what’s been
happening education wise in your family which can lead to refreshing your commitment to homeschooling.
Marty Layne has been creating safe, positive learning environments for the past 25 years both at home as she homeschooled
her children and in classes, seminars and workshops for mothers and others. Let her perspective and sense of humor add new
insight and ideas to your homeschooling journey. Be prepared to have fun, laugh, and come away renewed.
